about

The Coalition for Limiting University Expansion, or CLUE, along with the City of Santa Cruz, sued the UC Santa Cruz in the early 2000s. The suit led to a comprehensive settlement agreement in 2005 that capped enrollment at 19,480, and required a certain level of housing for those students. The settlement also placed limits on the University’s water usage, vehicle traffic, and other issues. With the recent launch of the University’s latest Long Range Development Plan, CLUE has re-organized and is developing plans to Limit University Expansion yet again. Joseph Kline attended a meeting, where they expressed support for Measure U, on the June ballot, which is a City of Santa Cruz referendum opposing the University’s enrollment growth plans.
